The First Issue of CommonSense2 Published Today
September 1st 2007
The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.
So wrote W.B. Yeats 85 years ago and American progressives can hear in his words an echo that s all too relevant in our own time.
Disastrous war waged in the name of our people. Personal liberties sacrificed in vain pursuit of security. Tragic failure and abdication in area after area of the nation s public life. And through it all, too much quiet acquiescence from those who disagree, and too much loud support from those foolish enough to believe that this is where we ought to be.
In truth, those of us who don t accept this state of things have been sounding off more and more about it. And that s where CommonSense2 comes in. We re concerned with the political, economic, educational, and cultural issues that shape our country at large. We re equally concerned with the influence of those issues on life as it s lived here in our eastern Pennsylvania home. So we ve created a forum to share progressive thinking on these crucial matters and we re glad you re part of it.
