I have been disappointed with the Democrats and with Obama in particular. And Biden not only voted for the war resolution but was part of the Iraq War propaganda machine, including not allowing weapons inspector Scott Ritter to testify before Congress because Ritter was saying there were no WMDs. I have gone back and forth about voting for Obama or voting for a third party candidate, but that debate with myself is over. It is obvious there is no choice now that the redneck neo-conservative lunatic fringe is McCain’s VP choice. I will be voting the Obama/Biden ticket—everything is a matter of degree.
I feel like I am always down Alice’s hole, but this is totally bizarro land beyond description. I know that we are told that any of us could grow up to be president, but we actually find ourselves with a candidate who has delusions of grandeur. We already have one of those as president. One is more than enough, thank you. Mike Malloy refers to her as “Caribou Barbie”—perfect.
There is so much information about the Repug VP choice, “governor” of Alaska, Sarah Palin, it is hard to know where to start. Let me interject here that while all attention of the media is being focused on this (I can’t help myself because there is just soooo much dirt), the neocon Bushie nut jobs are going about creating more dangerous havoc. Seems Cheney is traveling—hmm wonder which war he is advocating on his trip.
Let me start by saying Sarah Palin is scary. She makes Huckabee look like a puppy dog. She is an NRA gun-toting (started hunting animals at age 10) right-wing religious fanatic redneck who loves war, doesn’t believe in evolution or science, wants creationism taught in the schools, and is rabidly anti-abortion including no abortions for rape or incest. Take note that she is anti-choice for everyone but her 17-year-old, 5-month pregnant daughter who has, under pressure, “chosen” to keep the baby. She preaches abstinence only sex education and wants to ban books. Getting nervous yet? She has voted against programs that would help young mothers who might not live in the Alaska governor’s mansion. There is now info in the National Enquirer—now don’t jump down my throat, after all they broke the story about John Edwards’ affair a year ago and that turned out to be all true—that this God-fearing “hockey mom” had an affair with her husband’s business partner. Good family values, huh? Hey, I haven’t even gotten into the fact that she is TOTALLY not qualified to be a vice president of the United States. Eeks! She’d be president if McCain dies or becomes incapacitated.
Palin was a beauty queen and then mayor for a few years of the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, with a population at that time of less than 6,000. She became mayor after being on city council for a couple of years. Then she, self-proclaimed maverick (all lies), beat the purportedly corrupt Republican governor of Alaska (population 670,000—less than medium sized cities) and has been in the governor’s seat for about 1-1/2 years. Does this sound like someone qualified to be vice president or president of the United States? Oh, I keep forgetting who we have now.
That “maverick” moniker is a load of crap. Not only is she joined at the hip to corrupt Alaskan politicians, most notably Senator “Bridge to Nowhere” Ted Stevens who is being indicted. She has connections to the infamous Jack Abramoff, who recently received a 4 year prison term. It would have been more but he supposedly provided information to help the investigation. She is also a vindictive woman who gets people fired when they go up against her.
She also favors environmentally disastrous policies like drilling in the Arctic Refuge and hunting animals from planes and helicopters. And, of course, she is against gay marriage and other humane policies. She is now a registered Repug but was, and might still be, involved in an Alaska secession party. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism (this is priceless), that she obtained after attending five different schools over the course of six years. Yet she knows nothing at all about the Constitution. She thinks the Pledge of Allegiance was written by the founding fathers and that they included the God phrase. The pledge was written in 1892 and “under God” was added in 1954.
In a cynical and desperate attempt to boost a rudderless campaign, John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his choice for vice president. Is this putting Country First, or is it a cruel joke on all of us?

Gee, Dorothy, you really kept us in suspense with who you were going to vote for. Palin sounds perfect.

onenastybeast – good one – lol…
Actually, I had turned on my tv shortly after Palin was announced rep. vp running-mate. At first, I honestly thought it was joke – I had to make sure I wasn’t watching some comedy show. I got such a kick out of it, I called up my mother to tell – we both LOL’ed.
Later that day my mother got a call from a republican friend going off about how inncredibly great she is.
What I find interesting now is how our gov (currently with rep. in office) now decides to financally bail out these hugh companies whose CEO/big-wigs/pres/or what-nots-in-charge take home millions (note the “s”) a year – all while the republican party canidates are running on a platform with a “home town” slant – they must be refering to a mighty rich “home town”

Not a joke, but a decoy to assist the Evil campaign in distraction tactic lesson 101.We are presently changing the subject to “I’ts the economy stupid”.The game they are now playing is the same as Herb Hoover tried and lost in the thirty’s,Bank bail outs, we will be back within the year with harder choices to make.Unless we call their bluff,no deal, no way. Reverse the eliteist Bush tax cuts, spare the working middle class.Maybe then we’ll talk.
Stefan comments:
When the Democrats give President Bush the votes he needs to pass this god awful bail out… will you still insist on blaming the Republicans alone?
This crisis is also the fault of Alan Greenspan and President Bill Clinton, who masterminded the plan to sustain the Economy through ever increasing personal debt centered on home ownership, rather then the traditional method of increasing wages that raised the standard of living for many generations.
It all failed when home values failed to keep increasing, not allowing more debt expansion / refinancing, and complicated because the bankers can’t simply foreclose and liquidate the assets to get back their money. Let’s face it, IF the bankers could sell the mortgaged homes and recoup what’s owed plus fees and penalties… there would be NO CRISIS !!!
Stefan comments:
Well, the first bail out deal failed in the House. 60% of Democrats voted for the bailout, 67% of Republicans voted against the bailout. Now that is bi-partisanship!
Stefan comments:
Well, the Democrats just gave George W. Bush and the Wall Street speculators their bail out.
Over 7 years of handing our public tax dollars over to private companies in the form of corporate tax cuts, now one final act of transferring $700 billion in private debt onto the tax payers.
Perhaps our members of Congress could take a few minutes away from representing their corporate sponsors and remember what Thomas Jefferson had to say about banks:
‘I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.’
—Thomas Jefferson in 1802
That great private bank commonly referred to as the Federal Reserve is no more “federal” than Federal Express!
Obama, McCain, and Biden all voted for this.
Bob Johns comments:
Far be it for me not to “credit” the Dems in our congress for going along with a bad idea, (no plan of their device).Remember the capitulation? So called,(bi-partisanship?),the pre-emptive war? Which gave the Republican party a purpose. “No guts no glory”, stand up damnit, to the Republicans stop being Republican lite! When I hear the word Bipartisan I kvetch! They should realize, there is nothing in it for the Dems. The little angel that sits on my shoulder screams in my ear, There is always a better way! Rather than repeating almost verbatim, the prelude of “Great Rebublican Depression” of the 1930’s. Tactics performed, verses reiterated directly from Herb Hoover in a speech by, Bomb-Bomb McCain. The “fundamentals are strong”, oops! The McCampaign began spinning immediately, asserting somehow that he was thinking that “fundamentals” referred to “AMERICAN WORKING MIDDLE CLASS” – That’s rich! What is required is to move on to our own ideas! They have missed an opportunity! They should skip the Hoover step because banks from the world over,(mark these words) will be lining up for bailouts they will be back at the well within the year. Advance to step two, Roosevelt! Funding a serious recovery, already proven effective! Bridges, structure, think big projects! The only way to inject liquidity into any economy. “Liquidity makes Capitalism possible”, if injected at the foundation (underpinning) a real, not a “false economy”. Thus the meaning of the term fundamentals!
