Ray McGovern: War and Peace

Ray at Conyers Hearings

Note: On Monday, March 5th Ray McGovern will speak at Albright College in Reading, PA (6-8pm in the Klein Lecture Hall of the Campus Center building – open to the public) and on Saturday, March 3rd he will be the speaker for the LEPOCO/Lehigh-Pocono Committee of Concern annual dinner http://www.lepoco.org/calendar.html

With his background in the military and as an CIA analyst for 27 years (including preparing and delivering the daily briefing to two of the many presidents he served under), and as a student of theology and philosophy, Ray McGovern brings both a knowledge-based and a moral perspective to questions of war and peace.

It was my good fortune to attend a Berks County World Affairs Council meeting several years ago where Mr. McGovern was the guest speaker. Not only did I hear him speak but I had the opportunity to meet him and ask questions one-on-one after his talk. What made a lasting impression on me then and what I have observed since was the sense of compassion that emanates from him and his constant striving for justice and fairness in a society that no longer seems to value either. A big question we should be asking ourselves is why do we marginalize and denounce those individuals who have empathy and compassion while choosing to idolize those who do not have those qualities and instead do great damage to humanity and to our world.

Speaking truth to power is never easy but that seems to be one of the missions Mr. McGovern has set for himself because he has a vision of what a better world can be. It is those individuals such as a Ray McGovern who continue to put body and soul on the line time after time on our behalf who are the ones we should hold in esteem and emulate, and it is their message we should heed.

BE sure and ask him if he’s ok after Hillary had him beaten? Good OnYa Dorothy for bringing him to speak and for both of your world views.

Thank you. He is a lovely person and an excellent speaker and I think he planted a lot of seeds to get people to think about things differently.
